Jack Longacre formed the Highpointers Club in 1987 to provide a forum
for the exchange of information regarding the highpoints of the United States.
The club continues to grow rapidly, and their website highpointers.org
has considerable information about the club and the state highpoints.
The Highpointers Foundation, a separate organization, works hard to raise money to secure permanent public asscess to all 50 state highpoints.
The average elevation of the 50 state highpoints plus DC is 6,050 feet.
The average prominence of the 50 state prom peaks plus DC is 3,705 feet.
The US state peak power is 224.
