Barb and I sat outside during the short equatorial twilight watching a quiet cloud
hover around a strangely calm Mawenzi. As I looked at Mawenzi, I understood why it is considered part of Kilimanjaro.
As night rapidly rose from the moorland to engulf us, a porter’s song floated across Kilimanjaro’s cradle.
His haunting, suspended hymn gently sedated camp as silent stars sparkled. We would leave for the summit in a few hours.
